I intercepted Hurricane Ivan with CSWR and the DOW's. Being that this was my first hurricane that I experienced, the anticipation was very high. As Ivan as moving in towards the northern Gulf shore, he started entraining some dry air in a ERC. As this point, Ivan weakened to a Category 3 and maintained this status until landfall. Here are some satellite pictures of Ivan before and after his weakening stage. You can see the dry air entraining into the eye in the water vapor and visible satellite images.
Here are some pictures I took from my flight down to Tampa Bay. These shots are not Ivan, but some t-storms somewhere in the southeast.
Here is a picture of our deployment site in Gulfshores, AL. I left and went home with RJ Evans and didn't travel with the DOW's home. When the DOW3 tried to leave, it got stuck. Josh called in a tow truck and it also got stuck. So Josh called another tow truck, this much bigger and pulled out the tow truck towing the DOW. It must of been quite a scene, I wish I was there to see it.
Here are some pictures of the radar upon landfall, one of threatnet and one of the DOW's. We ended up in the eastern side of the eye. You can see the eye in the velocity image approaching our location by the blue semicircle.
We deployed at the Gulf Shores Airport. Here is some of the damage at that airport.
