Sorry, my page is under major construction!!  May 31, 2005: Splitting Supercell near Lawton, OK

Another solo chase for me began in OUN, I traveled southwest to my target area of Lawton, OK. This was a spur of the moment chase for me. Some thunderstorms had developed in extreme nw TX and sw OK, they were moving northeast towards me and I couldn't resist the chase. I intercept the storm just north of Lawton and pursued it east of the Interstate. It had a decent updraft.

While I was traveling east, the storm split and the heaviest precip went with the right turner and hail shaft. The left split actually put a funnel out but didn't really come close to touchdown. I didn't get a pic of the left split, but here is the right split.

I followed the storm for a bit longer, but it slowly deteorioated from there until there wasn't even any precip left, it was a sad sight. Meanwhile, some storms had fired up to my north, but they were linear in fashion. So I decided to zip out in front of them and get a picture of the shelf cloud moving in. This was taken east of Chickasaw.
