Sorry, my page is under major construction!!  June 4, 2005: southcentral KS

I start out by saying this was not a good chase for me. I left OUN early and had to go through Tulsa to pick up my cable for my cell phone internet. I headed north on US-75 targeting Emporia, KS. I made it to US-400 and the first cells had already started going up in northeast KS. Since I was by myself, I decided to play the poor man's chase and head for my second target of Winfield, KS. I met up with some of my other chase buddies there. We hung around there and watched a little storm develop west of Wichita. We decided to go after that storm.

We intercepted it near Andover, KS. The cell was not that impressive. What was was the fact that it was a 45dbz echo and there wasn't any precip falling. The updraft did have a nice corkscrew shape to it. We followed the storm northeast and it split and both cells pooped out after that. From there we went south to intercept the cell along the OK-KS border. I believe it was tornado-warned when we decided to pursue it. We were a considerable distance from it, but still tried anyway. When we finally intercepted the storm, it was nighttime and the structure of the storm was not that impressive, so we decided to bag the chase. Oh well, just another High Risk Bust for me!!!
